CHARACTER INFO
Character: Sora
Canon: Kingdom Hearts, at the end of the Kingdom Hearts III RE: mind DLC.
Age: 15
Background Information: Wikipedia link.
Personality:
Sora can be described as a young boy who is still learning who he is and learning that there is both good and evil in the world. He’s young but courageous, someone who will readily jump into any situation to help. One might say he’s naive but he does everything with good intentions in his heart. He has a strong sense of justice and right, wanting to help people and defend people who’ve been bullied or wronged. He has an unshakable loyalty to his friends and to the things he believes in.
His outlook on life is optimistic, and he chooses to see the good in everyone first before making any second opinions. He’s protective and understanding and would rather forgive someone for their mistakes than make an enemy of them. The biggest example of this is Riku, who attacks Sora several times and goes as far as to take his keyblade from him, forgave Riku in the end and still claims that Riku is his best friend and a person he cherishes deeply. He never feels as though Riku is evil or meant the mean things he said to Sora and has unshakable faith in Riku. Sora is kind-hearted, forgiving and generous. He does not judge people unfairly and always wears his heart on his sleeve.
As Sora grows he begins to defend his beliefs and actions more openly. He doesn’t let people step all over him and will tell people what he thinks of them. He’s confident about himself and his abilities and feels adamant about doing the right thing. He dislikes selfishness and cowardice and will be the first person to point out someone’s poor actions. Sora talks back to Xigbar when he stands in Sora’s way going as far as trying to egg him into a fight, insults Pete when he’s being villainous and talks back to many other enemies on principle. He stands up for what he believes in and is fiercely passionate.
This makes Sora somewhat reckless, as he tends to leap before he thinks and is impulsive. His impulsive determination is what drives him to do what he does and he does not like to give up. He searches relentlessly for Riku and Kairi during his adventures in Kingdom Hearts II and refuses to stop until he’s found them. Another example of his hastiness is during the events of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories when he separates from Donald and Goofy to chase after his lead on Naminé that he ends up leaving them behind in favour of running as fast as he can and ends up facing battles alone because of it.
Despite this, Sora knows when he’s done something wrong or made a mistake. He’s humble and will admit when he’s wrong. It is easy for him to apologize and to make amends with friends. He quickly apologizes to Donald and Goofy after they reunite for being hasty and smooths things over.
It’s Sora’s empathy for people that also stands out. It is easy for him to feel for others and to understand their feelings or what they’re going through. When Roxas returns to Sora’s heart in the prologue of Kingdom Hearts II, Sora instantly feels sadness for Roxas and understands his loneliness. Various other examples of his empathy are his drive to help Mulan prove herself, his understanding of Simba’s need to overcome his fears of being King and William’s urge to protect Elizabeth. He encourages and supports these friends and understands their goals and ambitions and often relates their experiences to his own.
Another defining trait for Sora is his honesty and his humility. During the events of Kingdom Hearts: DDD, Sora participates in the Mark of Mastery exam with Riku. Upon completion, Riku is named the new master and Sora isn't. Sora feels only joy and pride for Riku’s success and feels absolutely no jealousy, irritation for not passing. He understands he still has things he has to work on and can still improve as a person and a keyblade wielder.
Which also defines Sora ability to nurture people. He tends to bring the best out of people such as Beast when he feels unable to save Belle; Sora manages to convince him to be the strong person he is and to protect his loved ones again. Sora also readily allows Ventus into his heart to heal and desires for Roxas to become his own person. He makes his friends want to be the best versions of themselves and does his best to support them in any way he can.
In the current canon, he has gained some maturity. He seems to listen to what others are saying more often and isn’t as confused about the things going on around him. He is genuinely curious and instinctive. He is shown telling the others that they need ask Riku about how to get into the Realm of Darkness long before they actually accept the fact that they need to get there. He’s no longer the clueless kid that he used to be and he’s better at catching on, following through with plans and understanding tasks put in front of him.
He is also generally more charismatic, sassy and sharp with his words when he’s talking to other people. His jokes are fluid, his honesty is sharp as a knife and he’s better at explaining things to others.
Sora also shows a vulnerable side which shows that Sora is actually quite fragile when he thinks he’s alone. While he overcomes these fears in the same space it is clear that Sora has doubts and fears in himself about how strong he really is with or without his friends. He screams and shows tears when he’s overcome with these fears and even goes as far as calls himself worthless without support. Sora knows and that he’s just one boy and he still has things he’s afraid of and insecurities about worthlessness he needs to face.
Sora also shows more of a temper or is able to snap when he’s pushed far enough or witnesses an injustice. Some examples of this are when Sora jumps onto Davy Jones’ back to punch him in the face when he witnesses William Turner’s death. Another example is that Sora’s Antiform has evolved into a Rage From which shows that Sora holds some deep emotions of rage and hurt in his heart. This rage more than likely stems from all the hurt he’s seen in his life, growing up with so much responsibility and the frustration in wanting to save his friends. And most importantly from darkness in his heart.
Sora has other certain flaws too. He is often easily confused or angered when he doesn’t understand something such as getting repeatedly frustrated when being called Roxas in Kingdom Hearts II or getting into childish arguments with Donald. He can be gullible as well such as not recognizing that Mulan is a female until he’s directly told. Additionally, he is often teased by his friends that he’s oblivious or dimwitted. For instance, by Riku and Joshua on Sora’s slow uptake on the situations occurring during Kingdom Hearts: DDD.

ARMADA SELECTION
While Sora shows traits that he would fit into both armadas, I would like to put him in with the paladins. The paladins align with Sora’s beliefs about protecting others, growing, learning and discovering new places and treasures for the good of others. Although, he'll happily consider himself a paladin-pirate since he loves being a pirate. Sora will also be inheriting a paladin-rooted crew in the future.
